Club of the month: Ponteland RFC
Ponteland RFC have been recognised for engaging in community activities, from hosting mini rugby tournaments for schools in the West of Northumberland to regularly attending Falcons match-day fixtures.
Their mini-match day festivals aim to link schools back with their local rugby clubs. The club has worked closely with Falcons Community to increase participation in the sport, particularly in schools, and trying to grow their newly-formed Women and Girls section.
Ponteland RFC has an impressive retention rate, with over 75% of the senior men’s squad having come through their youth section. It is also the only club in Northumberland that does not have its own clubhouse.
Along with dealing with Covid, they have had to manage playing and training whilst new facilities have been developed. This hasn’t stopped them from accommodating all age groups and teams. The current season has seen the number of participants increase at an all-time high level at the club.
Ponteland are a valuable member of our Club Connection programme. This programme aims to make our community club stronger by supporting elements, both on and off the pitch.
Club Connections is powered by Fusion for Business (FFB), committed to helping sports clubs become more energy-efficient through a range of costs and carbon savings. These savings can create a new recurring revenue stream, boosting the longevity of grassroots sports for our next generation and beyond.
