The event saw workplace teams from businesses across the area compete in 12 sporting challenges to become champions.

Run by Tyne and Wear Sport, the Active Workplace games are aimed at encouraging local businesses to increase the levels of physical activity within their workplace.

Tyne and Wear Sport is a charitable company committed to improving the quality, range and fairness of sporting opportunities throughout Newcastle, Sunderland, Gateshead, North Tyneside and South Tyneside.

The Falcons team faced stiff competition from 2nd place Johnson Controls and 3rd place Gentoo Group, as well as from the team at Tyne and Wear Sport. But with a final lead of 13 point at the end of the competition, the team were proud to walk away with the club’s first accolade of the season.

Falcons Community Foundation director and team captain Melanie Magee said: “The Falcons Community Foundation have worked with Tyne and Wear Sport for several years now on various different projects, including our Workplace Touch Rugby programme this season. We were delighted to take part in such a fantastic competition and really enjoyed participating alongside all of the other businesses who attended the event.

“I would really encourage more to take part next time. In addition to being a great team building exercise, we had the chance to try out a number of different sports some of us had never experienced before. Winning the event was the icing on the cake. Thank you Tyne and Wear Sport and all of the organisations who took part – see you next year!”
