It was a positive afternoon for two of the Falcons emerging talents on Sunday as Joe Craggs and Jonny McPhillips played a full part in England Under 18’s impressive display against Scotland in a 39-27 win at Kingston Park.

McPhillips, playing at Fullback, contributed 12 of his sides points through a try and the boot while Craggs, who lined up on the Blindside Flank, also grabbed a try on his home patch.

Watching on from the stands, Academy Manager Mark Laycock was pleased with how his academy pair acquitted themselves in their country’s colours at Kingston Park.

He said: “James Ponton and myself have seen quite a bit of the Under 18s recently and when they play how they train they are outstanding, which we saw in parts last Sunday.”

“Scotland played courageously throughout and did very well, but there were just little bits where England were that bit better.”

“In terms of Joe and Jonny, they did very well and it was good to see them in an England shirt at Kingston Park. Hopefully they impressed enough to be have earned further opportunities in the future.”
