Ticket sales have surged past the 25,000 mark for The Big One at St James' Park on Saturday, as rugby fever grips the region.
Newcastle Falcons' 5.30pm Aviva Premiership kick-off against Northampton Saints is preceded by a 3pm meeting between Newcastle University and Northumbria University.
A fan plaza is in operation on Strawberry Place from 12 noon until 5pm on a packed day of entertainment, and fans have been snapping up tickets in droves.
Tickets will be available to buy from the stadium on the day but supporters are advised they will cost £5 more than those bought in advance, the advice being to book early.
The Big One is already guaranteed to more than double the Falcons' previous record home crowd of 11,750, when they defeated Bath 20-15 during the 1997-8 Premiership title run-in at Gateshead International Stadium.
