Bring On Leicester

Thursday 27 February 2014

‘Bring on Leicester’ was the talk of the dressing room following last week’s narrow loss at home to Northampton Saints according to back-row Mark Wilson.

The Kendal-born talent, 24, has been a major plus point of the Falcons’ season so far, with a string of outstanding displays putting him in the Aviva Premiership spotlight.

“After the game we were immediately all focussed on the visit of Leicester and we will be going out there at the weekend solely focussed on what we can do as a collective unit,” said Wilson.

He added: “We are more than capable of beating anyone on our day and it’s important that we make sure that we start well on Sunday.

“We need to be quick out of the blocks in order to impose ourselves. We have grown in confidence over the last few weeks with a series of promising performances and we are getting better week by week.”

The South Cumbria insists Noah Cato’s try three minutes from time was rich reward for a second half showing fitting for the passionate Kingston Park faithful.

“We were winning the collisions in the right areas of the field and that is what forced Northampton into that loose pass at the end which Noah pounced on to score.

“After making an awful start to the game we ended up giving Northampton an awful fright and it was great character from us that earned the point.

“At half-time we knew as a group of players exactly what the problem was and we all agreed that we needed to front up at the restart,” said Wilson.

An anxious Kingston Park crowd watched on with grimaces as the contest threatened to get beyond them before the break, but Wilson admits after creating some openings in Saints’ rear-guard, the home supporters made the difference.

“The fans have a massive effect on the game here and when they are on song it really gets the lads going. When there is a line break the crowd are in full swing, and it makes you want to get up from a tackle and do it again,” said Wilson.
