Newcastle Falcons’ Development Team got back to winning ways at Worcester Warriors on Monday night, recording a 39-18 triumph at Sixways.

Marcus Watson made a successful return from the Achilles injury picked up at the Olympic Games, scoring the first try after Zach Kibirige’s break down the left and some fluent handling play.

Joshua Chisanga added the visitors’ second try from the back of a maul before Fred Burdon dotted down number three, the visitors having to wait until the early stages of the second half to record their four-try bonus point.

Burdon added a second try as Worcester struggled to clear their lines, Newcastle turning to their bench for the remainder of the game.

Prop Sam Lockwood grounded his first try for the Falcons as they continued to build a score, Dan Marshall scoring at the death in a convincing away win.

Falcons academy manager Mark Laycock said: “Once again we scored a lot of tries, but what was especially pleasing was the way we defended for the most part.

“Our line-speed was great, our chop tackle thwarted Worcester and we repelled some pretty big spells of pressure near our own try-line.

“Two of our school players, Jack Johnson (Gosforth Academy) and Charlie Wilson (RGS) got on and did well, we were happy with that and overall it was a good performance.”

Having beaten Northampton 38-21 and lost 31-29 at Leicester in their previous two A-League outings, Laycock said: “We are scoring plenty of tries and playing some good stuff. The guys are giving the senior coaches some big decisions to make and it is great to see the lads expressing themselves.”
