April 13th meeting to provide update on academy work

Newcastle Falcons Academy will be holding a Public Stakeholder Forum, hosted by Academy Manager Mark Laycock, on Monday April 13th at 6pm.

Laycock, who has previously lead the Falcons Sevens team to multiple victories on a national scale, will be joined by several other members of the Academy coaching staff to offer an insightful evening showcasing the framework used to develop promising young athletes.

“It will take place on the West Stand here at Kingston Park and we would like to offer an open invitation to anyone in the rugby community to come and find out a little bit more about the Falcons Academy.”

The Academy, which in the past has provided the Falcons senior squad with influential players such as Flanker Mark Wilson and Captain Will Welch, will open its doors to allow industry professionals and potential academy prospects a chance to learn more about the academy operates.

“It will be an opportunity to get an insight into the training, gym regiment, medical provision and also the coaching of the academy lads, for anyone who is interested in pursuing a career in rugby. “

The event will follow on from the success of previous events held last year and aims to raise awareness of the academy and what it can offer.

“We held an Academy Stakeholder Forum in December, before the Northampton A league game and there will be two events like this held over the course of this year to share what goes on the Academy and spread the word about what we do.”

The Falcons Academy is one of 14 England Rugby Academies based around the country and aims to help young players fulfill their dreams of becoming International players in the future.

Acceptance into the Academy provides young players with the opportunity for accelerated development through a network of experienced coaching staff, as well as exposure to first team Rugby training at an elite level.
