Falcons Green wary of wounded Tigers ahead of Cup trip

Falcons second row says Tigers will pose a different challenge on their home turf, as Kings of the North continues.

Newcastle Falcons second row Calum Green expects the Falcons to face a different animal when they travel to Welford Road on Saturday for the next instalment in the Kings of the North Cup.

Both the Falcons and the Tigers are searching for their first win in the competition after losing out to Sale in their opening matches, with Green saying plenty of work has been put in since that game at Kingston Park at the start of September.

“We’ve been working on defence, we conceded two softer tries last time around against Sale so, shore that up and be more aggressive in the contact.” said Green.

One of a number of players to feature in Director of Rugby Dean Richards post match comments following the Sale game, Green himself says that the Sale game provided more to focus on than be pleased with.

“I think from Sale I took more work ons and things I need to improve on, there were some good bits, but there was a lot to improve on. Hopefully going into the Leicester game, we can make them things right.”

Designed to give the clubs the chance of competitive action ahead of the delayed start to the Aviva Premiership season, which for the Falcons begins on Friday October 16th against Gloucester, Green believes Kings of the North is providing exactly that.

“I think so, as long we can get a good performance, then that is the main thing obviously. They are games we’d like to win but it’s not a must.
