Newcastle Falcons winger Morgan Passman joined club mascot Flash the Falcon in visiting North Fawdon Primary School on Thursday morning for World Book Day.
Morgan read extracts from some of the pupil’s favourite books in assembly, with students from reception up to year 6 wearing pyjamas for the day.
Each pupil was given a £1 book token and are being given the opportunity to choose a book from the selection of £1 books available from the World Book Day charity.
The winger chose two books at random from those selected by the pupils, with the lucky winners receiving tickets to the Falcons' Good Friday match against Yorkshire Carnegie.
Pupils has enjoyed a Greggs Breakfast Club in the morning to fuel them for the day, with the Falcons in attendance.
There was also a prize for the best-dressed pupil, with Mrs Elliott, acting headteacher at North Fawdon saying: "We are delighted to have the Newcastle Falcons in school with us today promoting World Book Day.
"It is aspirational for our children to see their sporting heroes sharing books and promoting a love of reading."
World Book Day is a registered charity on a mission to give every child and young person a book of their own. It’s also a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading.
