Greggs have been announced as a local supporter for the Newcastle 2019 European club rugby finals, which are being held at St James’ Park on May 10-11.
The Newcastle-based food-on-the-go giant will be helping fuel volunteers throughout the weekend as St James' Park plays host to the greatest weekend in club rugby.
The Heineken Champions Cup Final takes place at the home of Newcastle United on Saturday May 11, with the European Challenge Cup Final being held the night before.
Visitors will be swarming on the region as the eyes of the rugby world turn to Tyneside, with the volunteers – known as The Cast - at the forefront of the famous Geordie welcome. Around 200 members of The Cast will perform key duties at the stadium, in the Champions Rugby Village, across the city centre and at all major transport hubs.
Newcastle 2019 event director Mick Hogan welcomed the Greggs partnership.
He said: "Greggs is an iconic North East name, and it is fantastic that such a well-known and well-loved brand is getting involved in what promises to be a huge weekend of rugby. The Cast will provide a massive boost to the supporter experience and it’s reassuring to know that they will be fuelled by such a well-known and loved Geordie institution."
Greggs’ CEO, Roger Whiteside, said: “We are proud to be playing our part to support the Newcastle 2019 European club rugby finals where we will be providing food to the many volunteers who are giving their time to make it an event to remember.”
