Maximum Points For Richards & Co

Tuesday 1 January 2013

Dean Richards was satisfied with his side’s solid start to 2013 after a 28-10 bonus-point victory at Doncaster.

The Newcastle Falcons boss watched on as his maturing troops extended their unbeaten run to 17 games by virtue of scores from Zach Kibirige (2), Rory Lawson and a penalty try.

“I’ve seen a lot of New Year’s Day games that have turned out to be disastrous for teams, but we came down here and did the job,” said Richards.

He added: “There were a lot of errors from both sides, but we still came away with five points and that is the pleasing thing for me.

“We’ve obviously got a lot to work on, and we had a chat in the changing room after the game – if you look at Doncaster’s record at home it’s not bad.

We really expected a tough test and we got it.”

The Falcons return to action at home to Connacht in the British and Irish Cup on Saturday 12 January (kick-off 3pm).
