Saull Relishing Festive Period

Tuesday 24 December 2013

Sacrifices have to be made in all walks of life to make it to the top, and for the modern day rugby player there is no truer statement as Newcastle Falcons gear-up for back-to-back Aviva Premiership games over the festive season.

And with turkey and all the trimmings on the traditional Christmas menu, Andy Saull insists he, along with his fellow teammates have no qualms about not being able to over-indulge over the festive period ahead of this Friday’s showdown with London Wasps at Kingston Park (kick-off 7.45pm).

The Essex-born hit-man and the rest of his side have been given Christmas day off in preparation for the visit of Wasps.

“I’m used to not getting the time off, and for the supporters it’s a great chance for them to come down and watch the games when they are off work,” said Saull.

“I know some sports have a Christmas break, which is fine from a selfish angle because everybody likes their time off.

“Yes, it might be nice to eat too much and go out with your family over the holidays, but you have got to look at the big picture. The grass is always greener on the other side, and we get paid to play sport for a living.

“There is no greater privilege that I can think of, and there are plenty of Christmases in later life after I’ve finished.

“It’s no huge hardship, and the lads are really pumped up for Friday,” added the former England Saxon.

Friday is expected to be the biggest crowd of the season so far with tickets currently flying out of the Ticket Office.

Saull is relishing the prospect of a full house at Kingston Park, adding: “I’ve already been told that the Wasps game should be our biggest crowd of the season, and despite all the sacrifice around Christmas, when you speak to the players they all love playing in the games and in front of the big attendances.

“Kingston Park is a different place when it’s full or nearly full, the lads tell me, so let’s really try and pack the place out.”

Tickets are still available for Friday’s match by calling the Falcons Ticket Hotline on 0871 226 6060 or click here to purchase online.
