Academy players on hand to improve supporters bar services at Kingston Park
Newcastle Falcons have unveiled a new initiative which will see over a dozen members of the club’s academy set up assist in serving behind the bars on match-day at peak demand times. The players will add to the existing staff levels in the West and South Stands 45 minutes up to kick-off, at half time and immediately after full time to shorten queuing times for supporters.
The idea was suggested to the club by supporter Colin Edge who has seen it work successfully at other rugby grounds around the country. Academy Manager Mark Laycock believes the initiative will benefit not only the supporters but the players themselves. He commented
“This is a great idea and the players I’m sure will really enjoy meeting and talking to our supporters. Obviously we want to produce players who can reach the required standards on the field but to this will help them develop as people as well. All these young men are committed to growing the club and they are happy to help out in this way.”
The players have no undertaken bar training in readiness for the double header this Sunday 14th September at Kingston Park.
Conference & Events Director Jane Shepstone who has overall responsibility for bars at Kingston Park said
“The players have really engaged with the bar training and we’re all delighted with the enthusiasm and commitment they have shown towards this. Like every sport ground we get pinch points at key times during match-day and we are working as hard as possible to reduce waiting times for supporters. This will not only help us in that goal but will get the Academy players better known to supporters.”
Happy Hour bar prices are available on Sunday between 1.30 – 2.30pm and then between the Falcons and Thunder games at 4.45 – 6.00pm. Who knows you may be served a drink by a future international player this weekend…
