Gonzalo Tiesi is excited at the prospect of making his Aviva Premiership bow for Newcastle Falcons when his new side lock horns with Bath Rugby at The Rec on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm).
Capped 37-times by Argentina, the experienced centre played 50 minutes of last weekend’s 29-0 LV= Cup triumph at home to Newport Gwent Dragons on his return from a hamstring injury sustained against England last autumn.
“It was not the best surface on which to come back from injury, especially a muscle problem, but especially in the first half we managed to get our attacking shape sorted and score some tries,” said Tiesi.
“We played with the ball, which was one of the key things we had talked about.
“We will need to do a lot more of that over the next month with the number of key games we have coming up,” he added.
Now the former Harlequins and London Irish centre is keen to put his injury hit start to life on Tyneside behind him, and help the Falcons edge up the Premiership table beginning with a trip to the West Country.
“Bath are an outstanding side with a lot of strength in depth and we will have to be on top form to beat them on their own patch,” said Tiesi.
“It will be a huge test for us and it will be an interesting game this weekend at The Rec which is a very tough place to go,” he added.
Following their assignment in the picturesque city of Bath, the Falcons face further challenges against Harlequins, Northampton Saints and Leicester Tigers on successive weeks as the season goes into overdrive.
Tiesi said: “We are playing four of the top five in successive weeks and they are all good sides, but if we had to pick a time of the year to play them then you would probably say during the Six Nations is window to do it.”
The Falcons’ next home game is against Northampton Saints on Sunday 23 February with tickets still available by calling the Ticket Hotline on 0871 226 6060 or click here to purchase online.
