Co-captain Michael Young has signed a new three-year deal to remain with Newcastle Falcons.
The Hartlepool-born scrum-half has scored three tries in 11 appearances this season for the unbeaten Championship leaders, including the bonus-point try in last weekend’s 38-3 triumph away to Jersey Reds.
Making a total of 169 appearances in his two spells with the club, Young said: “It was a very easy decision for me to stay here.
“I came through the academy, this is home for me and it’s brilliant to be a part of things.
“The boys are great in terms of their ability and attitude, we’ve got a huge amount of talent and I’d like to see out the remaining years of my career as a Newcastle Falcons player.”
Young has been a central figure for the Falcons in a season which has seen them winning all 21 of their games, building a 13-point lead at the top of the Championship as they remain on course for promotion straight back to the Premiership.
Director of rugby Dean Richards said: “Michael is a real leader who brings a vast amount of experience and control to our game.
“His ability to direct things and bring other people into play is a massive asset, and allows us to play in a number of ways.
“It’s always great to see homegrown lads representing the club, and I’m delighted that Michael will remain an important part of our plans here.”
News of Young’s contract extension follows previous announcements for club-mates Adam Radwan, Gary Graham, Alex Tait, Tom Arscott, Toby Flood, George Wacokecoke and Jamie Blamire, who have all agreed new deals to remain with the unbeaten outfit.
