Kiran joined the Falcons in the summer of 2023.
Raised in the Glasgow suburb of Bearsden, he was a relative latecomer to the sport. Kiran was 18 when he joined his first club team, Glasgow Hawks, playing the last four months of their season before moving to join Glasgow Accies.
Signed up to join Glasgow Warriors’ academy at the age of 20, McDonald spent a brief period in England with Hull before returning to Glasgow, where he spent six seasons, making more than 50 appearances before moving to Wasps in the summer of 2022.
McDonald started every Premiership game for Wasps during the early part of the 2022-23 season before the club went into administration, going on tour with the Barbarians in the immediate aftermath.
He then embarked on a short-term deal with Irish province Munster, where highlights included beating world champions South Africa in front of a sold-out home crowd of 50,000.
His first season with Newcastle in 2023-24 saw McDonald scoring on his debut against Ampthill in the Premiership Rugby Cup in September 2023, going on to score two tries in 13 games that year.
