Dunfermline-born Murray joined Newcastle Falcons in the summer of 2023 from Edinburgh.
A prop who can play on both sides of the scrum, his rugby journey began at the age of seven when one of his friends from Scouts said he should go along to Dundermline RFC to try his hand at rugby – and a lifelong love affair was born.
Moving to Perthshire for sixth form at Strathallan, Murray played for Scotland Under-18s but didn’t get offered a pro academy contract, so moved up to Aberdeen University where he started a geology and petroleum geology degree.
Going on a Scotland Under-19s tour to Romania and being selected for Scotland Under-20s, after the 2015 Junior World Cup he moved to Edinburgh to sign with the BT Academy, as it was called then.
Initially linking up with Heriots he made his debut for Edinburgh in November 2016, coming on from the bench at home to Treviso, and went on to make 21 appearances in his debut season there.
His full international debut came in the Six Nations away to Wales in February 2018 before he went on the summer tour that year to USA, Canada and Argentina, playing in the first two tests against Canada and America.
Playing for Edinburgh from 2016 until 2021, he signed a six-month contract with Glasgow and was due to extend it before they played a friendly against Worcester Warriors, who were impressed with what they saw and offered him a deal to head down to England.
Worcester’s financial issues meant he was left without a club in the autumn of 2022 when they went into administration, so after touring with the Barbarians he signed a short-term deal back at Edinburgh before moving to Newcastle in the summer of 2023.
His debut season with the Falcons in 2023-24 saw him making 19 appearances, scoring a try against Benetton in the EPCR Challenge Cup.
